Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend (what’s not to love??) but Prince’s Diamond and Pearls showed that pearls are a very close second. I’ve never been a huge fan of a pearl necklace (ahem) but there is something slightly decadent about those oyster coloured jewels. Whether it’s the Queen matching hers with her twin set or the Eastend’s Pearlie king and queen- pearls are a definately a statement piece.
Now the style squad have rediscovered the power of the pearl and they can be seen everywhere from the catwalk to the High street. If donning a Chanel inspired necklace is not for you there’s so many other ways to wear pearls. Gucci have adorned pearls onto trainers, shoe heels and even their slides. With prices ranging from £450, I’m not totally sure how these beauties will withstand the city’s harsh pavements.
So wanting to inject some pearl into my wardrobe but not having to worry about ruining expensive shoes, I opted for the much safer (and cheaper!) option. Last week, I had a rare day off with no work, meetings and Mr C surprised me with a shopping trip. Obviously not together because as much as I love my husband, shopping together is really not a good combination. Yes it starts off well BUT he fails to see my need to browse as he has a much more pragmatic approach to shopping.
Anyway I digress, I decided to head to Westfield as they have a good selection of designer and High Street. I literally had to remind myself that I would not look at the kids clothes as this was a shopping trip just for me! Once I had got my head around that I looked in a few shops before heading to Marks and Spencer. I usually only ever go to Marks and Spencer for food or the kids uniform but thanks to instagram I found myself in the knitwear section. A few days earlier I had spotted someone (sorry can’t remember her name)wearing a pearl jumper underneath a fur gilet and I knew I wanted it. Luckily she had tagged her outfit and I found the jumper online.
The photo really doesn’t do it justice, the wool is so soft and £34.99 is a bargain!! Ofcourse when I went to the store they didn’t have my size but I will be ordering online.
My next stop was Zara, my all time favourite High street store for myself and my daughter and occasionally my son. I already knew I wanted the Zara black sheepskin jacket so grabbed that first and then I spotted a short sleeve grey top covered in pearls. It was the last one and a steal at just £17.99!! Apart from the pearls on the front, this top is so soft and ticks the comfy and stylish boxes!! I have worn this a few times already and wished it came in other colours.
Yes pearls might be seen as decadent and OTT but thankfully the High Street prices are very affordable and sometimes less isn’t always more!
